What is MSDS?

MSDS, is an abbreviation for Material Safety Data Sheet. Today, the word “Material” is not used, and the sheets that prepared is called SDS, Safety Data Sheet.

These sheets, known as identity card for chemical material and mixtures, are prepared to inform user adequately about precautions he/she should take in order to ensure occupational safety during the storage and/or usage of  material.

According to the regulation numbered 29204 which signed in 13 December 2014, the forms must include;

  • Degrees of classification for user health, physical and environmental hazards
  • Precaution must be taken during usage,disposure and storage
  • Label specifications
  • Precautions and classifications for transportation
  • Other 16 Chapters that has the information about physical and chemical properties

What are the obligations?

Safety Data Sheets must be prepared by for those who has the certificate and must be translated to the language of the country which the subject material is made.

It is mandatory by law to prepare, distribute and provide the Safety Data Sheets. SDS forms must be kept updated and it should be revised if some changes are made. Revisation may caused by change in the product, formulation, change in raw materials or during the adaptation to the regulation. Hence, these sheets must be updated and kept under control by supervisor or implementing agency. It is advised for companies to consult an expert on this documantations.  For SDS applicants, industry-specific obligations and regulations must be investigated and necessary changes must be done on the SDS documents.

Who could prepare SDS?

 In order to be applicatior for SDS, the person must have certificate. This certificate is given to the person who took the training in an accredited instution and pass the test applied with satisfactory results.  The period of availability for this certificate is 3 years. To take the test, it is also required for candidates to have a work experience related in this field.

Besides the Know-How services in the field of chemistry, ChyimiCo Consultancy, Industry and Trade Limited Company,  also serves as implementing agency for documentation of safety data sheets in any desired language.
